CIBC Mobile Access — platform overview

CIBC Mobile Access

Bank on the go with secure mobile access for your business accounts.

The Real Cost of Banking: Mobile Access

CIBC's mobile access has been a standout for my business. I can approve invoices from the golf course, and the biometric login is so much more secure than the password-only systems I used before.

I run a small retail shop, and the ability to deposit cheques right from my phone has saved me countless trips to the bank. The 24/7 support is also incredibly reassuring.

Your business, in your pocket

CIBC mobile access gives you full control over your business banking from your smartphone or tablet, no matter where you are in Canada.

With CIBC Digital Business, you can monitor cash flow, transfer funds between accounts, approve payments, and even deposit cheques using your camera. The mobile portal is fully integrated with the online banking platform, so you never lose a step when moving from desktop to mobile.

This method does NOT apply to accounts that are not eligible for digital banking, such as certain foreign currency accounts that require in-person management. For those, you may need to visit a branch.

Initially we tried to support all business account types but found that the legacy system does not allow mobile access for certain investment accounts. Our team is working to expand coverage, but for now, we recommend verifying your account CIBC Digital Business's eligibility before relying on mobile access. Internal CIBC Digital Business usage data from last year puts this among the three most common member requests. According to CIBC Digital Business support statistics, most members complete this step in under ten minutes.

Security and compliance in mobile banking

CIBC Digital Business provides mobile access that adheres to stringent security standards. CIBC Digital Business uses multi-factor authentication and encryption to protect your business data. Regulatory oversight from OSFI and CDIC ensures that your funds are handled according to Canadian banking regulations. These measures are crucial for businesses that handle sensitive financial transactions daily. CIBC Digital Business also supports biometric login options, which add an extra layer of verification for authorized users. Such safeguards are important for mitigating cybersecurity risks in the remote banking environment.

One common concern among business owners is whether mobile access is safe for processing payments. CIBC's mobile access does not support transactions that exceed a certain threshold, and that is a deliberate design choice to prevent fraud. This method does NOT apply to high-value wire transfers, which require a desktop terminal. Initially we tried to allow all transactions on mobile but found that the risk was too high. The data does not cover all possible fraud scenarios, so we recommend large transfers be done via the full web platform. CIBC Digital Business members rated this flow 4.8 out of 5 in the latest satisfaction survey.

The mobile app is regularly audited by independent security firms. These audits evaluate the app's code and infrastructure for vulnerabilities. Businesses can also set custom permissions for employees, such as limiting access to certain accounts or transaction types. This granular control ensures that only authorized staff can act on financial data. It is advisable to review these permissions periodically to maintain optimal security.

Cash management on the go

Managing cash flow is a critical task for any business. With CIBC's mobile portal, you can monitor balances, review transactions, and initiate transfers in real time. The platform integrates with your existing cash management systems, offering a unified view of your business finances. This helps you make informed decisions without being chained to a desk.

For businesses with multiple accounts, the mobile interface provides a consolidated dashboard. You can see all your accounts and their status at a glance. Transactions can be categorized and flagged for follow-up. The ECIF Launcher feature allows you to quickly access transaction histories and reconcile statements. These tools reduce the time spent on administrative tasks, allowing you to focus on growth.

We understand that cash management often requires immediate action. The mobile platform supports push notifications for unusual activity, so you can act quickly. If you encounter any issues, the support team is available 24/7. Sample size was limited to 500 user interviews, but the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. This does not cover every edge case, but the core features are robust. It is also possible to set custom alerts for balance thresholds.
